I just graduated from a huge state school in political science/economics with a g.p.a. in the range above. I was wondering what the chances for any top programs with a g.p.a in that range. I'm okay at standardized testing, high 90s for ACT/SAT/LSAT. I have decent in school EC's, Varsity club sport, president/treasurer of a large business focused student group, and ran a pretty big conference.
A little background. Not a URM. Currently supposed to be attending a top 20 lawschool w/ a near full tuition scholarship in the fall but I'm having second thoughts. I figured I would hedge my bets after graduation so I applied around to some jobs recently and have two decent offers.
So I guess my question stands, if I want to attend B-School will I be totally shutout of top programs? I'm wondering right now since I would really prefer not to turn down this law school offer where I would graduate with 0 debt for a pipe dream.

I thought it would be really interesting to see how many students got into a particular school. I'll start with Harvard.

Sarcasm- A good idea for essays?
To get my writing style, I'll just post my description of myself on the Facebook's "About Me" with some artistic edits to stop my stalkers from finding out where I live.
About Me- I make generalized statements about things I don't understand and events I can't comprehend, and get offended when people dare ask about them. I beg for attention by posting status updates that are as vague as can be, and reply with a simple "Nothing lol" and "0mg stahp!" when people dare ask me about them. I post selfies of myself in the nude, and get upset when people dare look at them. I complain about things other people do that they can't control, while begging people not to judge me for who I am. I criticize people for their stupid opinions, whilst begging for world wide tolerance. I harass other people for being who they are, while liking a page to show I am committed to end bullying. I tell people to stop complaining and to think of the starving masses in Africa, while begging my parents to complain to a teacher who dares give me a detention for dropping a few f-bombs. I will ignore the nice boy who will cherish me, while crying over my boyfriend who cheated on me after I fixed him! Who am I? I am Time Person of the Year 2007. I am the Alpha and I am the Omega. I am Batman.
Anyway, is this a good style to do my essays in?

My chances?
GPA: 3.6 uw, 4.1 w
ACT: 30
Will take the SAT soon.
Clubs: Junior Classical League, Youth and Government, German (offices: treasurer and VP), Mock Trial, (will be inducted into NHS).
Volunteer work: I've been an active girl scout for 12 years and have volunteered at the equestrian center run by my council for 3 years. I take as many chances to volunteer elsewhere as I can. I will be teaching English in Ghana next summer.
Scare factor: I had a rough freshman year and got Cs both semesters in English I- gifted.
If any of this matters I go to a nationally accredited magnet school (top 25% in my class) , I am a black female, I live in the Deep South.
I am a junior and expect to raise my GPA by at least .1 points before graduation.
Is Brown a realistic reach for me? My other reach schools are Yale, Columbia, and Rice. Am I out of my mind?

EECS: Which schools should I consider?
Before anyone looks me up: Yes, my first post was a troll post. Yes, it was stupid. But it got me into this site and now I'm interested in using it legitimately.
I'll be a senior next fall.
Profile:
GPA: 4.00/4.00 (UW), 7.49/7 (W, max- my school is weird)
Class rank (solely GPA based): 1/832 (there's 26 other people with that same rank, and that might pop up during the admissions process)
School is a highly competitive, top 50 in my state
State of residency: Texas
Test scores: 2400 SAT (2 takes; 2240 first time but Math was a 720 so I retook); 800 WH, 800 Literature, 740 Math 1, 800 Math 2, 770 Chem, 750 Bio E, 730 Physics; AP's (all 5): World History, US History, Statistics, English Language, Physics B
Courseload: max rigor; AP Chem + AP Bio + AP Calculus BC + AP English Literature + AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics next year
Extracurriculars:
3 years of Orchestra (not much to show)
3 years of Mock Trial (some awards, Treasurer)
3 years of Young Democrats (President)
3 years of FBLA (competed at state)
2 years of UNICEF
2 years of Model UN (PR Manager)
Some competitions on recent events (got to state level)
Science Olympiad (state level for Astronomy)
500 hour of volunteering (300 at animal shelter, 150 at local tech charity, 50 miscellaneous- mainly tutoring)
3 years of school volunteering (Web designer)
Founded 3 clubs (GSA and two volunteering organizations)
Awards:
Excellence in a few subjects (3 math/sci)
National Merit Semifinalist (likely to be a Finalist)
#2 at a local math contest
Character Award
AP Scholar with Distinction
National Forensic League Distinction
Major: EECS
Goal: Tech company (Start-ups and Google/Apple/Facebook/Microsoft/etc. are my dream, but I'll settle for any innovative environment if I can get in)
Educational goals: I think I'll go for a Master's and an MBA but that's TBD
Cost constraint: $40k/year is the furthest my family will go (we're hoping for something like $25k/yr and won't go very far unless the school is stellar)
Income bracket: $125k/yr BUT with high savings (too much for Berkeley's MCAP)
Preferences: academics first
Weather- none
Region: I like the West and the Northeast but mostly because their universities tend to be way better; I want to avoid conservative regions, rural schools, and hopefully most of the South
I don't want to go to a school that's religiously affiliated unless it's only nominal; I will not take a mandatory religion course
Size: no concern as long as there's research and internship opportunities for things I'm interested in (innovative tech)
I'd like to avoid frat/party schools if possible, but state schools are cool since they're so big and diverse that I can find my own scene
So far I'm using UT-Austin as a safety (my only one? A&M will offer a full ride, so maybe I'll add it). I'm also looking at Stanford ("dream school" although I know that's a stupid term), MIT, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, Caltech, and Harvey Mudd. Any tips?

Private-school kid denigrating local public school
My son's best friend will be attending the elite private day school this fall that his sister already attends. Our local public schools are very highly ranked, some of the top in the state, which is why we have never considered private school for our kids. Although I'm sure that the private school gives students an edge when it comes to college admissions, on average, my son is an outstanding student and we think he'll be able to get into a great college straight out of the public school. In fact, he and his friend have always been two of the top students in school together since early childhood.
Yesterday, my son told me that his friend (who admittedly does act like a jerk sometimes) has been teasing him about going to the public school, He claims that his private school is far superior and that even an average student there is better than a so-called top student at the public school and will get into a much better college. I told my son that his friend feels a need to say this in order to feel important, and that the best thing my son could do was to excel in his own studies and get into a great college just like he wants to. Obviously this kid is insecure or just a braggart and is blowing off steam.
But these comments disturb me. I wish there were some way to let this kid's mother, who is a close friend of mine, know how her son is acting. It's in terribly bad taste, and in any case his claims aren't true. Anyone encounter this before?

Greatly reducing junior year workload?
So all I'm doing this summer is working full time to help out my family. That's pretty much it. I am going into junior year and I've read horror stories about how difficult it is. My schedule is quite easy with 4 APs that I can handle. However, I would like sleep and some time to learn more during the school year. So my plan is to pretty much finish my textbooks for each over the summer since I'm a fairly quick learner . Has anyone ever done this? Did it work out well for you? I really want a few A+'s on my report card and I am determined. I would have time to study for SATs and learning languages. So whaddaya think? Am I ultimately headed for a path of utter destruction?

How do I plan out my life/education/career?
I want to be a visual artist (drawing, painting, illustration, pen/ink, mixed media, and installation art as the main focus, but I definitely want to venture out to learn about and do more things), a performing artist (singing, dancing, and acting and maybe a musical actress), a musician (piano, violin, and guitar), a music producer, and a composer. Thing is...I have ZERO experience. I have taken art classes and know a few things about how to play the piano and read notes, but I am only at the beginner level. I am also already 21 years old and still at the sophomore level in college.
How do I make a plan that will help me achieve all of these things or help me incorporate active participation in all of them in my life to make a living out of them? What do I major in, especially considering that I am at the beginner level (because most programs require auditions/experience)? What jobs do I apply for?
edit:
I am thinking of getting an AA in Child Dev. to support my aspirations and because I like children, as well. But I'm uncertain whether an AA in CD will be enough to support my aspirations.

Should I apply for Law School?
I just finished my Sophomore year at a highly regarded public university in Ohio. I am a Chemical Engineering major, with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. My current GPA is a 3.94.
Over the last few months, I have become very interested in Patent Law. Do you think it is worth it for me to go to Law School, and pursue Patent Law? All you ever hear about right now is how Law graduates are accepting minimum wage jobs because the Law field is so flooded with applicants.
Also, if I went to Law School, I would prefer to go to University of Cincinnati, as I am from Cincinnati and could live at home while I attend school (obviously reduces my loans). Would it be that much more beneficial to go to a T14 school, if I could get in? I would think that if I can keep my GPA up, and pair it with a good LSAT score, I would have a decent chance of getting into one.
Thanks for any help.

Will a single B- ruin my transfer chances to a good computer science school?
Hello guys,
so I will be applying to transfer into some universities with very good computer science programs (the ones I have in mind are Georgia Tech, UC Berkeley, UT austin, UIUC, and UW). Up till this semester, I have held a near perfect GPA in my current computer science program (the only grade i got that was less than an A was an "A-", and that was only once, and I held a 3.98 GPA. However, this semester, I got a B- in one of my computer science classes (rest of classes are still A's). My GPA is now 3.92. Will this single B- severely hinder my admission chances to any of these schools?
Besides my grades, I have very good EC's and I can get good reccomendations. I am considering retaking this class over the summer to get an A. Do you guys think this is a good idea?
